Researchers have found a way to transmit light in curved paths that are twice as narrow as before. The invention is a crucial step towards building ultra-fast microcomputers that send data in beams of light instead of electrical signals.
According to researchers at the University of Central Florida and the University of Texas at El Paso, the materials for the construction of the tiny device were already ready, but what hindered its development was the inability to control the light inside it without large energy losses.

The device that allows for the efficient manipulation of the path of light looks like a small plastic cell and converts beams of photons into optical cables, which can be twisted around tiny components inside a microcomputer.
