Cortana is reportedly ready to take on the role of secretary , not only on smartphones, tablets and PCs with Windows but also on those with Android and iOS, in an attempt to dethrone Google Now and Siri respectively, according to an exclusive report by Reuters, citing sources close to the company.
Cortana will become available as a separate app for iOS and Android, after its release on Windows 10, the publication reports.
Although the information has not been officially confirmed by Microsoft, Reuters reports that the Microsoft Research team and those involved in the “Einstein Project” are currently working at a rapid pace. This is because the next advanced version of Cortana, an artificial intelligence service that attempts to enable human-machine communication using natural language, is scheduled for fall 2015.

Microsoft Research head Eric Hotvitz referred to the upcoming version by saying that “email reading and comprehension technology will play a central role.” It follows that the new version of Cortana will be able to read the user’s e-mails and offer them relevant updates and notifications. A typical example refers to the digital assistant’s ability to take action after reading an e-mail about a planned trip – Cortana tells the user when to leave for the airport days after the relevant e-mail, has checked the flight status, and has checked the user’s (their phone’s) relative location from GPS to check traffic on the roads.
