The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate investigated a case of publication of sensitive personal data on the internet . A 41-year-old Cypriot man was arrested on the spot, and a case was filed against him for defamation and violation of the provisions of the legislation concerning the protection of personal data.
The investigation into the case began after a complaint from a local resident regarding the posting of her personal videos on an internet website, without her consent.
In the context of an order from the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office to conduct a preliminary examination, a specialized and thorough investigation was carried out by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, while a team of police officers conducted a house search at the home of a 41-year-old man, who, as it turned out, is involved in the case.
On the 41-year-old's laptop, videos of the complainant in her private moments were found. Specifically, there were fifteen (15) videos, which are alleged to be in their original form, and another ten (10) videos, the product of editing and merging the originals.
In addition, a large number of photographs of herself, also in her private moments, a microSD card and an electronic folder were found that refers to a mobile phone application for editing video files and is identical to the software used to edit the videos in question posted on the internet.
From the on-site autopsy, a "folder" with the name of the website in question was found on the 41-year-old's mobile phone, which was found to contain pornographic videos.
As part of the investigation, a laptop computer and three (3) mobile phones were seized, with their memory cards, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for the necessary laboratory tests.
The 41-year-old, with the criminal case filed against him, is being brought before the Athens First Instance Prosecutor today.
