SAP HANA platform will provide doctors with comprehensive, real-time patient data and could lead to the creation of a national cancer registry
The Medical School of the University of Athens is gaining access to SAP's HANA platform. Thus, via Cloud, it will be able to develop a methodology for the better diagnosis and treatment of cancer, based on processed data from multiple specialties in real time.
In addition, it will be used for the retrieval and processing of relevant administrative data, as well as research and education work.
“It is a perfect tool to break down the silos between existing databases in different departments of our Medical School,” said Professor Evangelos Georgiou, Head of the Department of Medical Physics at the University of Athens. “The expected results of this pilot study should provide the oncologist with comprehensive data on cancer in real time, so as to accelerate the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. This could also lead to the creation of a national cancer registry.”
“This project is an excellent example of combining medical information and expertise with the innovative use of technology,” commented Manos Raptopoulos, CEO of SAP for Greece, Cyprus and Malta and Head of Operations for Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “We are excited that the Medical School of the University of Athens will leverage SAP HANA to improve the care of cancer patients. This pilot project could have a major impact and offer highly targeted, personalized treatments to cancer patients in Greece.”.
