The Japanese craze for robots is not new, but it is now taking it to another level following developments in recentmonths.
Many of you may remember the Kodomoroids, the robotnews presenters we saw last summer. This time we will meet the Actroids, who will staff the Hotel in the Huis Ten Bosch theme park as receptionists, bartenders, waiters, grooms, etc.
The construction began 11 years ago by Sanrio (creator of the Hello Kitty brand) in collaboration with Osaka University and they have evolved to the point where they have been entrusted with real work at the Henn na Hotel (72 rooms), which will open its doors on July 17. The goal is to create a new unit, also with 72 rooms, which in the future will be staffed exclusively by Actroids!
According to the president of Huis Ten Bosch, Mr. Hideo Sawada,
Henn na Hotel is already accepting reservations
at prices of ¥7,000 for a single room and ¥9,000 for a double room (approximately €50 and €65 respectively) per night, while during periods of high demand an auction will be held with a maximum price of ¥14,000 for a night in a single room.
We will see how much customer service will improve with robots over time, but there is also the bigger issue of the significant reduction in jobs.
