Phishing email with the Norton Antivirus logo

Phishing

Phishing message, which appears to come from an administrator and has the Norton Antivirus logo, is intended to trick users into filling out their email details on a fake website.

The message doesn't provide much information about the source it comes from, but instead focuses on a fake problem the recipient may be having with their email account.

As is always the case with phishing scams , the scammers make the issue urgent by saying that the email account will be disabled if appropriate steps are not taken to correct the problem, reports Hoax Slayer.

This email can be easily identified as a scam, but many users may be confused by the fact that access to their email account can be terminated without warning and thus fall for the trap.

A link is provided, as a computer scanning service offered by Norton Antivirus that could eliminate the alleged malware in the user's email account. In fact, at the bottom of the message, Symantec, so that the user can trust the link included in the email.

The phishing page includes fields for the victim to fill in with their account details to begin a 30-second scan. After connecting to the service, a message informs that the scan is in progress, announcing shortly after that it has completed.

At this stage, the user's email account credentials are already in the hands of third parties and unless the two-factor authentication option, 2FA, is enabled, fraudsters now have free access to the account's contents.

This scam is not new and has been used continuously by those who want to steal account information, at least since early 2013.
