Base station support trials, with a small cell solution, were carried out in one of the busiest industrial parks in the East Midlands region
Intracom Telecom announced the successful completion of the pilot installation of the advanced wireless support (backhaul) solution for small cell base stations, StreetNode, for Telefónica UK, one of the largest telecommunications providers in Britain and a member of the Telefónica group
The trials were conducted at one of the busiest industrial parks in the East Midlands region of the UK. StreetNode was tested on the operator’s active small cell network, both as a Point-to-Point and Point-to-MultiPoint platform, demonstrating remarkable flexibility thanks to its software defined operation. Telefónica UK tested the ease of installation and the system’s ability to support real-world network traffic using the latest generation of small cell systems.
According to what was announced, "during the tests it was confirmed that the installation of StreetNode was carried out with minimal training of the technicians. Also, the automatic alignment of the system further facilitated its installation, which was implemented quite quickly, while the whole process was monitored locally using applications on Android smartphones, which were connected to the StreetNode via Bluetooth."
“It was a significant opportunity for us to test our system on Telefónica UK’s network. StreetNode allows operators to implement street-level backhauling by reusing licensed frequencies,” commented Mr. Ioannis Tenidis, Head of Marketing, Wireless Solutions Business Unit, Intracom Telecom. “By combining top-notch quality features, alongside intelligent automatic antenna alignment, we have developed the most advanced street-level connectivity system,” he added.
The system was managed remotely from Telefónica's network management center using Intracom Telecom's uni|MS network management solution.
