Microsoft: Retail sales of Windows 7 and Windows 8 are ending

Windows8

Microsoft has decided to end the retail availability of most versions of Windows 7 and 8. The basic operating system that will "run" on new computers is Windows 8.1, which was released in October 2013.

All this, of course, while waiting for Windows 10, which will be released at the end of 2015 and will "run" on all devices (desktops and laptops, tablets and smartphones).

As reported by the BBC, as of October 31, the sale of Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate editions of Windows 7 has stopped. At the same time, the retail sale of Windows 8 in stores has also stopped.

Due to the fact that many computer manufacturers already have large inventories of these older operating system versions, the change is not expected to be immediately felt in the market.

It is noted, however, that Windows 7 had proven to be extremely popular for the company, unlike Windows 8, which did not prove to be the most... "favorite" of users during its two years of availability.

It is characteristic that their market share is only 6%, while it was recently surpassed by that of Windows 8.1, which was released last year, while Windows XP, which was released in 2001 and ended in 2010, still "enjoys" a share of around 17%.
