How to avoid buying a used and... stolen iPhone

With the iPhone 6 officially arriving in Greece, many iPhone 5 and iPhone 5sare selling their phones through classifieds in order to financially support the purchase of the new model. Unfortunately, among them are several scammers who sell stolen iPhones at a "bargain" price.

Fortunately, Apple protects its customers and in the new iOS8 has integrated a new feature into the iCloud.

By entering the IMEI or serial number of the specific mobile phone on Apple's special page, you can check if it has been remotely locked by its former owner who is looking for it and who is obviously not the one selling it to you...

Apple's new system has the very positive peculiarity that it can reveal the illegal "doulCi" software used by thieves.

“doulCi” manages to make a stolen, locked and non-activated phone appear as if it is turned on and working, while in reality what you will buy from the thief is an… iPod as the device cannot connect to mobile networks.

If you are one step away from buying a used iPhone, take a computer with you, visit the special address (https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/), enter the IMEI or serial number of the phone you want to buy and find out if it is stolen and deactivated before paying several hundred euros!

Before you rush to say that mobile phone companies are required to discontinue service to devices whose IMEI has been declared on the stolen list, ask yourself: How many former owners will rush to do all the necessary procedures to activate this lock?
