An updated version of the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) operating system has been released to fix a series of vulnerabilities in Libav.
The Libav vulnerability update only applies to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and the developers have explained that Libav could crash or run programs if a specially crafted file is opened.
As noted in the announcement: «It was discovered that Libav mishandles certain media files. If a user has been deceived by opening a crafted media file in an incorrect format, an attacker could cause a denial of service via the application or possibly the execution of arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking the program».
For a more detailed description of the issues, you can see security advisory . Users have been advised to upgrade their systems as soon as possible.
