The mobile evolution continues with Apple having signed an agreement with credit card companies that will allow the owner of the next generation iPhone to make electronic payments at retail stores, US media reported.
Apple is expected to introduce the new version of the iPhone in the coming time frame. At the same time it is likely to announce agreements with Visa, MasterCard and American Express and launch a mobile phone that can also function as a digital wallet.
As Bloomberg reported citing a source who asked not to be named as the talks between Apple and the credit card companies are private. The payment system will turn the next version of the iPhone into a mobile wallet, Bloomberg reported.
Holders of the advanced generation phone will easily make payments via a mobile phone containing a special communication chip. This could be combined with a fingerprint recognition system that has already debuted on the latest iPhone, which allows consumers to pay their bills and shop at various stores securely with just the touch of a finger.
Online specialist media outlets reported earlier on Sunday that Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to work together on the new iPhone's payment system. Apple has scheduled a media event on September 9, leading to rumors that it will also unveil its new phone which will likely have a larger screen than previous generation iPhones. According to reports, the new phones are expected to have screens of 12 and 14 centimeters as opposed to the current model which has a 10 centimeter screen.
