BadUSB: The Hack That Hits USB Devices

USBWhen we hear about viruses or malware, the reference is usually to some software, however, the latest news coming from the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas concerns a very dangerous vulnerability that affects USB sticks, difficult to identify and even more difficult to deal with by today's antiviruses.

“BadUSB” generally attacks peripheral devices connected to the computer, such as USB sticks, keyboards, webcams, but also Android smartphones/tablets. The latter, when connected to the computer, can trick the user into visiting malicious websites that imitate Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Because it affects USB devices in the base firmware they use, it is extremely difficult to deal with without hardware intervention. Even formatting cannot do anything, as it only deletes the data on the storage space and not the base firmware. We will expect more information in the coming days.
