What to do if you have a charging problem on iPad

iPadIf you're having charging problems with your iPad, whether you have an iPad 2 or an iPad Air, know that you're not alone.

Of all the devices manufactured by Apple, when it comes to charging issues, the iPad is often at the top of the list.
In some cases, the problem is purely hardware and the device needs service, but in most cases, it is not. Below are some steps you can try if you are having issues charging your favorite tablet.

1. Hard reset your device
If your iPad seems dead and only shows a black screen or your iPad does not recognize its charger when connected then the first thing you should do immediately is a hard reset. Simply hold down the Home Button and Power Button at the same time and do not release them until the Apple logo appears on your iPad screen.
When your iPad has finished rebooting try to see if it recognizes the charger. If yes the problem is solved if not or your iPad does not even show the Apple logo proceed to the next step.

2. Try a different outlet or USB port
Sometimes the problem has nothing to do with the iPad at all, but the outlet itself may be to blame. Many of us have a routine of charging our iPhones and iPads in the same place every time. So if you have a charging problem, it would be a good idea to try a different location. The same goes for charging your iPad from the same USB port every time.

3. Check the cable and the charger itself
If the charger is in a permanent place in your home or office, this means that most of the time the cable or the charger itself is rarely checked for possible problems. Apple cables in particular have a tendency to “break” or open after a period of use. So if your iPad is not charging, the cable itself may be to blame, but even the charger. If possible, try a new cable first on the same charger and then change the charger if necessary. If you do not have a spare for the iPad, try charging it with the iPhone one. Charging in this case will be slower but will confirm that your iPad does not have a hardware problem.

4. Restore your device via iTunes
If you have tried the above but your iPad is still having trouble charging, then try restoring the device via iTunes. This is the basic advice that Apple gives before you conclude that it is a hardware issue. Back up all your files via iCloud or iTunes and proceed with the restore of your device without fear.
