Researchers triple battery life using sand

phpqkkte4

A team of researchers from the University of California, Riverside, have found a way to triple the battery of portable devices using sand.

The researchers replaced graphite with common beach sand to increase the battery's autonomy.

Sand contains large amounts of quartz and silicon , and what the researchers managed to do was isolate the quartz from the sand and, in combination with materials such as magnesium and sodium chloride, they managed to create pure silicon.

In fact, the silicon in question turned out to be highly porous, which is key to improving battery life. From the tests, they saw that the energy density is three times higher.

In addition to being a particularly cheap method for manufacturing such a battery, it is also environmentally friendly.
