It may come as no surprise, but the NSA has been collecting far more content on innocent Internet users than on its targets. As Edward Snowden reveals, the agency was monitoring a huge amount of Internet traffic, on an incredible scale.
The NSA has tried to improve its public image, with the game of the national security bulletin and the release of a «transparency report», but this does not absolve it from the fact that countless innocent internet users have been caught in its nets.
A study by the Washington Post reveals the true extent of the impact on the average internet user – and this is much worse than many believed.
What kind of data has the National Security Agency collected? Well, the files include names, email addresses, as well as other details that make it easy to understand that half of these documents belong to citizens or residents of America. This means that the NSA clearly knew whoever was in its data collection.
By law, the NSA can only target foreigners living abroad. If it obtains a warrant based on probable cause, there is a possibility of some investigation.
