According to a new report by the Guardian, the NSA is planting backdoors and other spyware on devices before they are shipped to the market.
The information comes, as always, from the files leaked by Edward Snowden. It should be noted the irony of the case, as the United States government accused the Chinese government a few years ago of doing exactly the same thing with Huawei and ZTE devices.
The attacks from the US government were so intense that Huawei eventually decided to leave the US market. Ren Zhengfei, Huawei’s founder and CEO, said last November that it was not worth the trouble if the company’s presence in the United States caused problems in the relationship between the two countries (the US and China).
The file, published by the Guardian, reveals that the NSA systematically monitors unsuspecting citizens through routers, servers and other computer networking devices exported from the United States to international markets.
The service implants the spy tools, repackages the devices with the factory seal, and sends them to the markets.
