Thailand: Dozens of hacked government websites were used for phishing attacks and malware distribution

Over the past month, cybercriminals have managed to hack more than 100 Thai government websites, which they then used to distribute malware and carry out attacks . Experts estimate that at least 500 attacks in total were launched from these websites.

According to Netcraft, 85% of the malware was hosted on government websites with the .go.th extension.

The compromised websites include those of the police, the navy, and various other Thai military organizations.

The navy website was being used by cybercriminals to redirect victims to a phishing website, which aimed to steal their payment cards. The phishing website was in turn hosted on a Malaysian website.
