Google and Microsoft seem to not embrace the intentions of some manufacturers to launch devices on the market that will integrate dual operating systems, namely Android and Windows, from the two companies.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the two American software companies do not want to release devices of any kind that do not have the exclusive logo, Android or Windows. In fact, Google and Microsoft have reportedly asked Asus to stop producing new dual-boot products, a request that Asus has reportedly accepted.
It is obvious that both companies, Microsoft and Google, have serious reasons not to want the widespread spread of dual-OS devices. First of all, the Windows 8 operating system does not have the momentum that Microsoft might have expected, so the company would not want to give Android “room” to grow in the computer market for any reason. On the other hand, Android dominates the smartphone market and obviously Google does not want Windows Phone to share in this success.
Additionally, the two operating systems and the two companies have completely different philosophies. Microsoft is the operating system supplier to practically every computer OEM worldwide. This means that it dominates the computer market, and as a result, manufacturers want to have an "agreement" with it.
Similarly, Google's Android is open-source software, but apps like the Play Store and Google Maps are crucial to the viability of a smartphone. If a manufacturer doesn't want to include these apps on their device, they obviously won't be offering a competitive product.
However, another factor seems to be harmed by the objections of Google and Microsoft. This is none other than Intel, whose x86 architecture processors are the only models that can support Android in combination with a full version of Windows 8. In fact, Intel's plans were, in collaboration with other manufacturers, to produce laptop and tablet models that would not have an operating system pre-installed. Instead, the installation, at the customer's choice, would take place after ordering the device.
