Google is dropping the monthly cost for Google Drive starting today. Any user already has 15GB for free, but now they can upgrade to 100GB for $1.99 (it was originally $4.99). The most attractive offer, however, is the 1TB size, which from $49.99 per month is now down to $9.99!
As the company's users already know, the Drive capacity also applies to other services offered, such as Gmail and Google+ photos. According to Google itself, with 1TB of capacity, "you could take two selfies a day for 200 years and still have extra space left." Of course, if, for whatever reason, a user needs more than 1TB, there are also "plans" from 10TB ($99/month) and up.
Obviously, Google isn't doing this out of the goodness of its heart. The ultimate goal is to have lower prices than the popular Dropbox which costs $9.99 per month for "only" 100GB, while 500GB costs $49.99.
