The popularity and use of mobile devices is constantly increasing, and more and more businesses want to have their own application in order to better connect with their customers or partners. However, for a small and medium-sized business, the cost of developing a smartphone application (also called an app) is not very affordable.
Jupitee (www.jupitee.com), a startup that for 2 years has had an online platform that allows the development of applications for mobile devices without requiring any programming knowledge, seeks to provide a solution to this specific problem!
“The idea came about in 2010 and we managed to make it commercially available in 2012,” notes Dimitris Tsirikos, who, along with Panagiotis Goros and Vassilis Salis, are the founders of Jupitee, which has been financed with the equity of its three shareholders, on imerisia.gr.
The platform allows the creation of applications for devices using either Android or iOS, while in 2014 the ability to develop applications for Windows Phone will also be available.
According to Mr. Tsirikos, there is significant interest from the Greek market and more than 30 apps have already been created through the Jupitee platform, which have been installed on 70,000 mobile devices. The number is not insignificant at all, given that these apps are used by businesses or organizations that target a specific audience. “Many cases are sports clubs or exhibition organizers who want to have constant contact with their members or partners,” emphasizes Mr. Tsirikos. Jupitee is already popular in travel and tourism businesses, academic institutions, entertainment venues, shared workspaces, shops and employment businesses.
Jupitee, which employs 6 people, has begun to create a network of partners, to whom businesses that want to create an app and prefer to have a specialized partner to help them create an application can turn, although the use of the platform is extremely simple. The cost is quite affordable and, in fact, the customer will only pay when they see the app ready to be “downloaded” and are satisfied with the result. For those businesses that need to change the content of their application, Jupitee proposes a subscription payment model where the cost is 25-30 euros per month. For those who change very rarely, the cost for the initial creation of the app is 500 euros and then when they need to make changes the cost is 99 euros. “If one considers that the cost of creating a mobile app amounts to several thousand euros, Jupitee’s proposal is affordable,” points out Mr. Tsirikos.
One of the recent implementations was the app for the Greek delegation to the Mobile World Congress, the largest conference for the mobile telephony sector, which is currently taking place in Barcelona. Jupitee is participating in the mission, as the company’s goal is now to start expanding abroad. “We already have an implementation with an American company and we are discussing collaborations in Australia, Germany and Spain,” notes Mr. Tsirikos.
