Prosecutor checks site for possible leak of military secrets

The intervention of the First Instance Prosecutor's Office was prompted by a publication on a website maintained by journalists from the Piraeus reportage, regarding the guarding of premises by Coast Guard frogmen.

By order of the Head of the Public Prosecutor's Office, P. Fakou, a preliminary investigation was ordered into the leak of military secrets by civilian perpetrators, which was undertaken by the State Security Directorate.

According to the announcement by the Prosecutor's Office, the investigation was ordered "on the occasion of a publication posted on the internet (Pirate Report, 10-2-2014, The frogmen of the LS guarding targets outside the LS area in accordance with the law) .." while the offenses to be investigated concern:

(a) the transmission of military secrets and

(b) the transmission of secret information of military importance.

The announcement notes that "according to the Military Criminal Code, ordinary criminal courts have jurisdiction over civilian perpetrators.".

Law enforcement authorities are targeting those who leaked the information online
