According to a recent survey published online, 95 percent of ATMs worldwide still use Windows XP, which poses many risks, given that there are only two months left until the end of support for the twelve-year-old operating system.
Although the majority of banks have not yet started the transition to a newer operating system for their ATMs, a new report claims that a massive upgrade is being prepared within the last two months, before the official retirement of the operating system.
The risk for banks is great, while in the US alone the vast majority of the 420,000 ATMs are at risk of remaining exposed to threats, due to their non-support by Microsoft after April 28.
