Company executives have confirmed that Starbucks ' mobile app , the most widely used mobile payment app in the U.S., stores usernames, email addresses and passwords in plain text. The data is stored in such a way that anyone with access to the phone can view the passwords and usernames by simply connecting the phone to a computer. No jailbreaking of the phone is required.

The file also displays an extensive list of geo-tracking points (latitude, longitude). It is a valuable treasure trove of security and privacy information.

One of the reasons for the popularity of the Starbucks is its extreme ease of use. Customers only need to enter their password once when activating the payment service, and can then use the app to make unlimited purchases without having to enter their password or username again.
