Uganda Telecom responds to NSA breaches – will improve security

It was recently revealed that the National Security Agency (NSA) was monitoring Uganda Telecom's infrastructure to track mobile phones. In response, the company has pledged to implement stricter security measures.

According to Telecompaper, the country's National Intelligence Service and Uganda Telecom are working together to improve security on local networks.

They also collaborate with companies in the communications sector, as well as security services, to establish a shared vision for protecting systems from accidental or intentional loss of sensitive information.

The National Information Authority developed the National Information Security Framework to define minimum security standards to be followed by telecommunications companies, concerning administrative and technical controls.

According to initial leaks, an NSA to offer a mobile phone base station called Typhon HX that mimics a network provider's infrastructure. It collects cell phone signals for decoding and analysis.
