An interesting revelation was made by researcher DoctorBeet, from the United Kingdom, regarding LG Smart TVs.
As is known, LG's "smart" TVs collect information about the programs that users watch, in order to display targeted advertisements, as part of the LG Smart Ad service.
In a video introducing the service, LG informs potential customers that ads will be displayed based on their favorite programs, search keywords, online behavior and other information.
The expert, however, revealed that even after disabling the relevant setting regarding data collection, LG Smart TV continues to send information to the company's servers.
The “Collection of watching info” setting is enabled by default, but even disabling it has no effect.
However, users can remove the ads and prevent the data collection process by blocking the following domains on their routers: ad.lgappstv.com, yumenetworks.com, smartclip.net, smartclip.com, llnwd.net, smartshare.lgtvsdp.com and ibis.lgappstv.com.
