Security services company Avast is warning its users about the launch of a new spam campaign that distributes malware and exploits the company's name in an attempt to increase its success rate.
The emails are titled “Your order details and additional information” and purport to come from noreply@avast.com.
The fake messages replicate the legitimate messages sent by Avast to those who purchase product licenses.
The difference is that the serial number mentioned in the email does not exist in Avast. Furthermore, the attached file (avast-Antivirus-Order-Details.zip) is not actually a document, but a malware detected as Win32:Malware [Gen].
By Wednesday, when the warning was published, Avast had observed over 12,500 malware samples.
If you receive such messages, delete them immediately. If you have already opened the attachment, scan your computer with an antivirus program to make sure it is not infected.
