It will allow parents to see where their children are and communicate with them.
In the coming months, AT&T will release "FiLip," a "smart" watch specifically designed for children ages 4-11, exclusively for its subscribers.
Playing the role of a mobile phone, albeit with limited functions, "FiLip" will allow parents to communicate with their son or daughter through voice calls and messages. On the other hand, the little user of the watch will be able to call 5 specific contacts, which will have been pre-selected by their parent. In the event that none of these 5 contacts answer, the watch can be set to notify any service or even the police.
The FiLip is also a geolocation device, allowing parents to be informed at all times about the whereabouts of their children. Parents will also be able to set “safe geographic zones” to be notified if the child is outside these areas.
The watch will be manufactured in the US by Motorola, which has included a protective casing that will make it resistant to "the rigors" and water. However, A&T says it would be best not to let children wear it in the sea.
For now, the American company has not announced the retail price of the gadget or whether it will offer it on a subsidy through contract programs.
