Towerborne , a side-scrolling action RPG published by Xbox Game Studios and available in early access, will officially launch on February 26. Instead of releasing as a free-to-play game with a constant internet connection, as originally planned, Towerborne will be a paid game that you can play offline.

Trisha Stouffer, CEO and president of Stoic, the developer of Towerborne, says in a post on Xbox Wire: “You’ll have the full experience permanently, with offline play and online co-op. This change required a deep structural rebuild over the past year, transforming systems that were originally designed around constant connectivity. The result is a stronger, more accessible, and more player-friendly version of Towerborne — one that we’re incredibly proud to bring to market.”
According to an FAQ, “After listening to our community during early access and gameplay previews, we learned that players wanted a full, well-crafted experience without ongoing monetization mechanisms. Moving to a premium model allows us to deliver the full game from the ground up — no live streaming service grind, no pay-to-win systems — simply the best version of Towerbourne.”

With popular live-service games like Fortnite and Roblox becoming increasingly difficult to beat, Towerborne's transition to a premium experience that can be played offline could make it more appealing to players who don't want to jump into yet another game that requires endless time.
With version 1.0 of the game, Towerborne will feature a “full” story, new bosses, and a “revised” difficulty system. You’ll also be able to obtain all of the game’s cosmetic items for free through gameplay, with “nofurther cosmetic purchases.” Players who are already part of Early Access will be able to continue playing the game.

Towerborne will be released on February 26th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Game Pass, Steam, and PS5. The standard edition will cost $24.99, while the deluxe edition will cost $29.99.
