Reading the menu in a Japanese restaurant is perhaps the most difficult thing for a foreigner in Japan, but with… automatic translation glasses, the problem can be solved in the blink of an eye.
On the occasion of the Ceatec electronics exhibition in the suburbs of Tokyo, the largest local mobile phone company, NTT Docomo, presented several applications based on a pair of glasses equipped with a camera, which are used as a screen.
One of these applications allows the user to "subtitle" an image of a menu written in Japanese in the language of their choice. The user sees the image "modified" through their glasses.
It is also possible to display on the screen information (name, surname, profession, etc.) about a person the user meets thanks to a facial recognition and identification system.
Some or all of these technologies are expected to be ready for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
