iPhone 17 Pro: No Night Mode in Portrait mode

iPhone 17 Pro users on Reddit reported that the feature had been unavailable since last month. Apple has not explained why it removed the feature from its latest Pro models, nor whether it will be added in the future.

The removal of Night Mode from the Portrait mode of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max has sparked heated debate in the user community. Although Apple's new models promise performance photography, the absence of such a popular tool raises legitimate questions.

iPhone 17 Pro owners who attempt to take a portrait in low light will not see the option automatically enabled — meaning the photo will not be of good quality.

Interestingly, older Pro models, from the iPhone 12 Pro to the iPhone 16 Pro, continue to offer this feature as normal, leaving many users feeling like they're missing out on an important feature instead of gaining a new one.

Looking ahead

Apple is now aware of the debate surrounding the issue. Whether it will bring the feature back in a future update remains unknown, but history shows that the company is not oblivious to the strong reactions.

Until then, night photography enthusiasts will have to make do without Night Portrait on the new Pro models — or hold on to their older iPhone a little longer.
