YouTube has been on a mission for a few years to convert free users into YouTube Premium subscribers, even going so far as to gradually worsen the experience for users using ad-blockers. The message is clear: YouTube is best enjoyed with a Premium subscription, otherwise you have to put up with ads. But now, the Premium subscription offers a two-person option for even greater savings.

If you want to take the step towards an ad- free YouTube experience , the platform is now testing a new two-person YouTube Premium plan that lets you share your subscription with another user. According to Moneycontrol , YouTube has piloted this new subscription tier with select users in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, giving them the option to share their YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription with another member of their household.
Both members must be 13 years or older, have a Google Account, and belong to the same Google “family group.”

In India, the YouTube Premium plan for two people is offered at $2.60 per month, while the shared subscription for YouTube Music Premium is offered at $1.77 per month. It is noted that India has some of the lowest YouTube Premium prices in the world. If the pilot program is expanded to other regions, pricing to be aligned with local price levels.
It’s worth noting that YouTube’s two-person plan sits alongside the Family and Single User plans. The pricing for the plans encourages sharing your YouTube Premium membership with family members, so you get the most value for your money. The two-person plan is a great option for couples, roommates, or smaller households that can’t justify the family plan. If you have three people in your household, the family plan is still the most cost-effective option.

There's no word yet on whether or when the Two-Person plan will expand to other regions. If you're looking for a cheaper way to access (mostly) ad-free YouTube, you can also consider the YouTube Premium Lite. This subscription offers ad-free access to videos across most content categories, but still displays ads on music videos, music, and Shorts. It also doesn't include some popular features, like offline downloads and background playback, but it's cheaper than the regular Premium plan.
