“ Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess” failed to meet Capcom, as the company itself admitted.

In a Q&A that focused on shareholders and was reported by GameBiz, translated by Automaton, Capcom admitted that, despite positive reviews from the press and players, the game did not meet its sales targets.

The action-strategy game, based on Japanese fairy tales, is a new IP from Capcom, released on July 19 on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S, as well as Game Pass. IGN gave the game an 8/10, noting: “Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a compelling action-strategy hybrid with unique gameplay and impressive art design.”
Capcom attributed the low sales to poor marketing and a failure to generate interest before release. It was not stated whether the Game Pass release affected sales, although some argue that the direct release on Microsoft may have limited them. However, Capcom does not appear to be abandoning the game, as it intends to continue promoting it in order to eventually achieve its goals.

While “Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess” did not meet expectations, the other recent Capcom games have achieved their goals. This includes “Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster”, “Ace Attorney Investigations Collection” and “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics”. There is strong interest in “Monster Hunter Wilds”, the next major entry in Capcom's successful franchise, with early indications showing it will be a big success when it releases in February 2025.
