A veterinarian discovered that, if you have a lion on your hands and need to monitor its heartbeat, wrapping an Apple Watch around its tongue will work effectively.

Australian wildlife veterinarian Dr. Chloe Buiting, known on Instagram as Jungle_doctor, posted a video of a stunned lion that had an Apple Watch strapped to its tongue.

Dr. Buiting described this technique as an “off-label” use of Apple, explaining how the Apple Watch helps veterinarians monitor their furry patients during medical exams and surgeries.
The idea for monitoring the heart rate of this wild animal came from Instagram user Dr. Fabiola Quesada, a prominent wildlife veterinarian and conservationist.
Dr. Chloe Buiting reports that the Apple Watch has even been used to monitor the heartbeat of an elephant by attaching the watch to its ears.
Apple doesn't provide a specific rating for hibernation resistance, but with any luck, the existing water resistance should be sufficient.

We can't determine which Apple Watch model is being used to track heart rate in this case, but all Apple Watch models have this feature, so it might not be worth risking your new Apple Watch Ultra when any other model can successfully perform the same function.
