The Batman: Arkham series redefined the superhero genre and changed the course of action games after the release of Arkham Asylum. While four main installments – Asylum, City, Origins, and Knight – delivered similar gameplay, a smaller spin-off game, 2016’s Batman: Arkham VR, allowed players to take on the role of Batman: Caped Crusader using PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, or HTC Vive. Batman: Arkham VR felt more like an advertisement for a technological leap than a fully-fledged game, but its relatively strong sales showed that the demand was there. Today, Oculus Studios announced another title, exclusive to Meta’s VR headset that is set in the Batman: Arkham universe, titled Batman: Arkham Shadow.

Although Rocksteady Studios, the company that developed Asylum, City, and Knight, was behind Batman: Arkham VR, the company that recently released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League does not appear to be involved in the Batman: Arkham Shadow project. Instead, Camouflaj, the company behind République and Iron Man VR, is responsible for Batman: Arkham Shadow.
Details are scarce, but Camouflaj founder and CEO Ryan Payton wrote a letter on behalf of the team, which was posted on the company's website. From the start, Batman: Arkham Shadow is shaping up to be the ultimate VR game and take full advantage of Meta Quest 3."Our experience from eight years of dedication to VR game development has allowed us to not only create a game with a strong Arkham feel, but to do so in a way that harnesses the iconic magic that only virtual reality (VR) can deliver."

“Batman: Arkham Shadow is Camouflaj’s largest development project to date and marks our second release as a member of Oculus Studios, following the critically acclaimed release of Marvel’s Iron Man VR for Quest 2 in 2022,” the letter then stated.
Combined with the art style, the teaser trailer seems to imply that Ratcatcher is the main villain in this title.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is expected exclusively on Meta Quest 3 later this year.
