Apple is planning to apply an anti-reflective coating to the iPhone 16, which promises to enhance the quality of photos.
This will be achieved by reducing problems such as lens flare and reflections, according to rumors circulating in Korea.
According to information published by the account “yeux1122” on the Naver blog, and based on sources within Apple’s supply chain, the company appears to be considering incorporating new anti-reflective coating (ALD) technology into the production process of iPhone camera lenses.

Anti-reflective deposition (ALD) is an advanced process that allows for high-precision layer-by-layer deposition of materials onto a substrate. This method enables manufacturers to apply extremely thin and uniform layers of materials to semiconductor devices, such as camera components.
In the field of camera lenses, technology is a key method for applying anti-reflective coatings.
These coatings prevent photographic distortions that may appear in the final photograph due to intense light sources, such as the sun, on the lens.
ALD can address ghosting, a specific image distortion that creates blurry, afterimages in photographs, often next to strong light sources. This occurs when light is reflected multiple times between the surfaces of the lens and the camera sensor. In addition, materials applied with ALD can protect against environmental damage to the camera lens system without affecting the sensor’s ability to effectively capture light.
The Naver blog reports that a new manufacturing process will be used in a “Pro model” of next-generation iPhone, likely referring to one or both of the premium models in the iPhone 16 series. However, it is not ruled out that this technique is being tested for next year’s iPhone 17 Pro models, given the timing of the rumors.
