Well-known WoW streamer calls players "horrible" after backlash against Plunderstorm

The reactions to Plunderstorm in World of Warcraft sparked intense discussion among players and streamers.

The reactions to Plunderstorm in World of Warcraft sparked intense discussion among players and streamers.

We were all excited when we saw the World of Warcraft roadmap for 2024. Sure, Cataclysm Classic and The War Within are great, but that little black flag with the ever-iconic skull and crossbones was what really caught players' attention. A pirate update?! Will we be sailing the seas of Azeroth in the style of Assassin's Creed Black Flag? Or searching for lost treasure while wearing a fancy hat? Well, this really isn't World of Warcraft Plunderstorm – and people absolutely hate it.

In case you missed it, the MMORPG's newest game mode launched on Tuesday, March 19, and it's essentially a pirate-themed battle royale. Yes, you read that right: World of Warcraft is getting a pirate PvP mode in the vein of games like Apex Legends and Fortnite.

A quick look at the official World of Warcraft forums is a bit of a scare, calling the mode a “waste of development time,” “awful and frustrating,” and “a complete failure of the game.” Not quite the reaction Blizzard was hoping for, I’m sure. The main pain point is the fact that the mode is, of course, PvP – which attracts a comparatively smaller player base than the main PvE content. That means that, in order to get the mode’s rewards – the unique Polly Roger parrot and the Bubbles star shell – you have to participate in a mode that some people clearly don’t want to play. But Twitch streamer and former World First raider Caroline ‘Naguura’ Forer is fed up with the community’s reaction to Plunderstorm, calling players “horrible” and urging them to “be happy for once.”

“I'm trying to be very patient here, but [the Blizzard] just released something really nice, and everyone is damn negative, and that bothers me so much”, she says during a stream on March 19. “Can you be happy for once?! You damned World of Warcraft players, you are terrible. Get out, touch some damn grass, look at the sun – just be happy for once. Take a deep breath, drink a glass of milk, and stop being so damn negative. This is perfect!” I had said that it had passed, hadn't I?

As someone who's been anxiously awaiting the release date of WoW The War Within, I agree with Naguura. Sure, it's a very different look for WoW, but it's a limited-time mode that's really just for fun. Blizzard isn't going to turn WoW into a battle royale game based on this - it's a small time-consuming factor, and that's it.
