Polestar has revealed new pricing details for its upcoming midsize electric SUV : the Polestar 3. And most importantly – and perhaps reflecting the slower growth rate of electric vehicle sales in recent months – the Polestar 3 will start at a price that is significantly lower than what the company initially projected.

Polestar, which was backed by Volvo but is now overseen by Volvo's Chinese parent company, Geely, first announced the Polestar 3 in October 2022. At the time, the company said the high-tech SUV would start at $83,900, placing it in the luxury segment.

However, now Polestar says the price of a Polestar 3 Long Range with all-wheel drive will start at $73,400. With the additional $1,400 transfer fee, that rises to $74,800 – which is still a long way from $84,000. Broadly, electric vehicle prices have been falling across the board, encouraged by big price cuts from market leader Tesla. This version will begin production in the second quarter of 2024, with customers able to pick up the car in the summer.

Additionally, Polestar said that all versions of the Polestar 3 will come with the Pilot pack as a standard option, which includes driver-assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automated lane changes, and a head-up display system. (Most automakers charge extra for these features.)

If customers want a few extra goodies, like a 1,610-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 speakers and a subwoofer, as well as “bio-efficient” MicroTech and sheepskin seats for animal welfare, heated rear seats and 21-inch wheels, they can opt for the Plus package for $5,500, for a total of $78,900.

In keeping with its roots in performance and motorsport, the company also offers a Performance pack of the Polestar 3, which costs $79,400 ($80,800 with shipping). This includes Polestar’s entire suspension setup, 22-inch lightweight Performance wheels, an upgraded performance software that increases power to 517 horsepowerand 671 pound-feet of torque, a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, and “Swedish gold” detailing on the seat belts.

If you're a collector, a Polestar 3 with all packages (Pilot, Plus, and Performance) will sell for $84,000 – a little more than the original base price from 2022.

The Polestar 3 will initially be produced at Geely's plant in Chengdu, China, starting in the second quarter of 2024. The company will begin production at its South Carolina plant later this year.
