According to reports from the director of Titanfall, a video game from Respawn Entertainment, a small team appears to be creating a new game in the Titanfall universe that is NOT Titanfall 3.
We already knew about this team – and the fact that it is led by Titanfall and Titanfall 2Steve Fukuda – through an interview with Respawn boss Vince Zampella in an Axios article earlier this year.

Now, the Giant Bomb correspondent, Jeff Grubb, said on the Game Mess Mornings podcast that this team is working on a “Titanfall game” that takes place in the same universe as the first two games in the series – but emphasized that it is not currently designed to be Titanfall 3.
Grubb further explained that the project had been in an early prototype stage, but now it has started to gain momentum internally.

As for what a new Titanfall game would be like but not Titanfall 3, he described it as a game that's not "like a game with online multiplayer and a single-player campaign" and noted how the Apex Legends is also set in the same universe, but isn't specifically a Titanfall title.
This isn't the first Titanfall project to be original within Respawn in recent years, of course. The studio was reportedly working on an Apex/Titanfall hybrid — called Titanfall Legends — that would have been a single-player experience featuring characters from both games. A Bloomberg report said that this was initially canceled last year.

Will this new Titanfall project have better luck? EA recently hinted that it's more excited about Titanfall than Respawn, when it canceled the studio's Star Wars project - which was being referred to as a Mandalorian game - as part of its 670-employee layoffs.
“We decided to move away from the initial development of a Star Wars FPS action game to focus on new projects based on our own brands while providing support for our existing games,” said last month. It’s hard to think of any other “brands” Respawn has besides Titanfall/Apex.
Meanwhile, Respawn continues development of a third game in the Star Wars: Jedi series , alongside ongoing work on Apex Legends.
