The Nvidia RTX 4080 Super is the third and perhaps final of Nvidia's refreshed 40-series graphics cards. The Nvidia RTX 4080 Super is the only new GPU in the RTX 40 Super series that drops in price compared to the original card it replaces. At $999, it's $200 than the RTX 4080's original $1,199 price tag, which often sells for even more. A price cut is certainly welcome, but not much has changed in terms of performance. The RTX 4080 Super is about 3-4% faster than the RTX 4080, which means the RTX 4090 is still the undisputed performance champion. Now, to get Nvidia's best graphics card for 4K, you'll have to pay at least $600 more than the RTX 4080 Super, with the RTX 4090 offering about 25% higher frame rates at that resolution.
The RTX 4080 Super also puts the RTX 4070 Ti Super's $799 price tag in an even tougher spot, especially since it offers nearly a 20% performance boost for an extra $200 over the latter card. However, the RTX 4080 Super's $999 price tag is still quite high for a graphics card. The closest competition is AMD's $999 Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which is competitive with Nvidia's RTX 4080 Super.
We've already seen AMD respond to the RTX 4070 Ti Super by slashing the price of the RX 7900 XT from $899 to $749, though we don't know for how long. The RX 7900 XTX remains at $999, and how long that pricing will last will depend on whether you can easily buy an RTX 4080 Super for $999.
If you put the RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 Super Founders Edition cards side by side, there's little difference between them. Nvidia now uses a dark metal alloy throughout the RTX 4080 Super, but the graphics card is still huge. It's still the same size as the RTX 4090.

Nvidia hasn't changed the fan layout or cooling here, so there's a seven-blade fan on each side of this three-slot design. The RTX 4080 Super Founders Edition looks thicker than it actually is at 304mm long, but you might want to check if your case can accommodate this card - especially those from third-party manufacturers which will come in a variety of designs and sizes.
On the back, there are the usual three DisplayPort 1.4 ports (up to 240Hz at 4K with DSC) and a single HDMI 2.1 port (up to 60Hz at 8K with DSC). There's no support for DisplayPort 2.1 here, but given that most of the 240Hz 4K OLED displays entering the market do so with DSC enabled and no DisplayPort 2.1, this is less of an immediate problem.
The RTX 4080 Super also continues the tradition of the RTX 40-series in that it requires a single 12-pin PCIe 5 connector. Included in the box is a 12VHPWR adapter cable, which you'll need to connect to three regular eight-pin PCIe power cables. If you're lucky enough to have an ATX 3.0 power supply, then you can use a single cable, or there are plenty of options from companies like CableMod that let you convert a variety of PCIe power cables to a single 12VHPWR cable without all the bulk.
The RTX 4080 Super still features the same 16GB of VRAM found in the RTX 4080, but with a bandwidth of 736GB/s instead of the 717GB/s found in the RTX 4080. Nvidia has also slightly increased the RTX 4080 Super's base and boost frequencies and increased the number of CUDA cores to 10,240 from 9,728.
The RTX 4080 Super is about 3% faster than the original RTX 4080 at 1440p. This is a minimal improvement, similar to what the RTX 2080 Super showed compared to the RTX 2080 when Nvidia used the Super branding.

The RTX 4080 Super still delivers a great 4K experience. Every game hit 60fps or better, except for Metro Exodus Enhanced at extreme settings. However, it was very close at 54fps, and only the RTX 4090 manages to exceed 60fps at 4K – but you'll have to pay an extra $600 for that.
