Amazon Games joins the list of gaming companies affected by layoffs today. According to internal information, 180 employees will be affected by Amazon's new cuts. The cuts will include the Gaming Growth division and the Crown channel on Twitch.

Christoph Hartman, VP of Amazon Games, sent the memo to employees explaining the changes to the games division. “As I’ve shared before, our goal for Amazon Games is to become one of the leading creators of high-quality gaming content that will excite players for years to come. Part of that bold vision includes experimenting as we explore what players want most. We’ve listened to our customers, and we know that what they want most is free games delivered every month.

Amazon still has several games in development or planned for release, and as of this writing, there's no indication that any of these games are in danger of being canceled. These include a new Tomb Raider game, a Lord of the Rings game , and the upcoming MMO Blue Protocol. This is in addition to Lost Ark and New World, which are already in development and supported by Amazon Games.

The company is the latest in the gaming industry to announce layoffs as part of a restructuring. Embracer Group has begun laying off employees at several of its recently acquired companies . Bungie, Epic and Amazon-owned Twitch have also announced layoffs, along with many other companies in their industry in recent months. According to videogamelayoffs.com, this brings the total estimated number of jobs cut in the gaming industry to 6,500.
