VMware customers are expressing concern about the state of the virtualization software and the company behind it – from rising licensing costs, ransomware vulnerabilities, and declining quality of support, according to VergeIO.

84% of respondents said they are concerned about VMware costs both now and in the future, with many citing “per-core” renewal results and licensing agreements that require a commitment to increase spending annually as sources of additional concern.
With the rise of ransomware attacks exploiting specific VMware vulnerabilities, 77% of customers are concerned about the resilience of data . Several of those surveyed reported that their VMware environments had already been hit by ransomware, with recovery efforts taking more than 2 weeks, despite having adequate backup measures in place.
About 60% of customers expressed concern about VMware's ability to provide high-quality technical support, with some citing difficulty in getting support via phone calls. Others complained about slow response times to emails during holidays.

Rising prices push VMware customers to seek alternatives
The survey results also come amid rumors of VMware's focus on large enterprise accounts, with a shift to a more expensive pricing model following its acquisition by Broadcom. Due to these concerns, more than 87% of respondents said they are currently researching alternative infrastructure platforms to VMware.
Although rising prices were a top issue for VMware customers, the vast majority indicated that they are not willing to sacrifice features to save money.
The top priorities for replacing VMware, from those surveyed, were a seamless transition (76%), the ability to use existing equipment (72%), and the desire to achieve more with existing equipment (61%).
