Microsoft has released the September 2023 preview update for Windows 11 version 22H2, which is called KB5030310 and brings significant improvements, while also addressing 24 issues.
KB5030310 is an optional cumulative update that does not contain security updates, but helps Windows administrators evaluate the improvements that will be incorporated into the upcoming October 2023 Patch Tuesday .
This way, administrators can thoroughly test improvements before they become part of the regular update cycle, ensuring a smoother and more reliable user.

According to Microsoft, after installing this update KB5030310 on Windows 11, links to your most “important” websites (i.e. the sites you visit most often based on your browsing history) will be added to the “Recommended” section in the Windows “Start” menu.
However, using the shortcut menu, you can remove any URL from the Recommended section. To turn off the feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Start. You can adjust the settings for all recommended content in the Start menu on this settings page.
Business administrators can also remove “personalized” websites from the Start menu using the HideRecommendedPersonalizedSites.
The addition of sites to the “Recommended” section is perhaps the most significant improvement that the new KB5030310 version brings to Windows 11. However, as we mentioned above, it fixes several issues. For example, it fixes a Microsoft Excel “freezing” issue that occurs when sharing files as PDFsusing Microsoft Outlook.

It also addresses issues that cause the search button to disappear when interacting with the search box, as well as a bug that prevents Outlook from syncing when using iCloud for Windows.
Since the update is optional, users have to install it themselves. This is done in two ways: a) you can go to Settings > Windows Update, where you need to click on “Download and install” after checking for updates, and b) you can download the update directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it manually.

Some of the most important fixes brought by the new version are presented below:
- Update KB5030310 addresses an issue affecting sleep mode. After resuming from sleep mode, a blank window titled “Windows Input Experience” appears.
