Amazon will display ads on Prime Video unless you pay extra.
Amazon has always handled its streaming video lineup a little differently than its competitors. Other companies have gradually introduced a cheaper ad-free option, then later increased prices for non-ad-based subscription tiers. Prime Video is taking a different approach. The streaming service plans to hold ad-free viewing hostage and charge a $3 fee starting early next year.

In an announcement on Friday, Amazon said it will start adding “limited ads” to Prime Video starting in 2024. The company promised fewer ads than other streaming TV providers. The change will affect all users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany , and Canada. Other regions won’t have long to enjoy the ad-free experience, and more countries like France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia will get the change in the future.

But don't worry, all you have to do to ignore all the ads is give Amazon an extra $3 a month for a new ad-free option, at least for Prime members in the US. That increases the monthly cost of Prime from $15 to $18. Users should receive a message in their emails about how to sign up for Amazon's latest money-saving program several weeks before ads start flooding Prime Video.
