A new beta version of the PS5 system software introduces new accessibility features and audio options that allow you to enjoy 3D audio powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech on compatible HDMI devices with Dolby Atmos capabilities. The beta also includes more options for quickly finding games and console tips, new ways to connect with other players and customize multiplayer sessions, and support for larger capacity M.2 SSDs (up to 8TB). Access to the beta will be limited to invited participants in select countries, with plans for a global release of the update later this year. Some features available during the beta phase may not be included in the final release or may undergo significant changes.

Here are some of the highlights of the beta version:
New accessibility features
Use a second controller for help. You can now assign a second controller to an account as a support controller and use two controllers to operate your PS5 console as if you were using a single controller. This feature introduces a new way to enjoy cooperative gaming with others or help a friend or child navigate a particularly difficult section of a game.
- To use an auxiliary controller, go to [Settings] > [Accessibility] > [Controls] > [Use a second controller for assistance], and then enable [Use auxiliary controller].
- You can use an assistive controller when your primary controller is a DualSense or DualSense Edge , or a third-party controller supported by PS5.
Haptic Feedback in the system UI. You can now enable haptic feedback effects when navigating your PS5 with the DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, or PS VR2 Sense controller.
- When enabled, system sound effects for certain events will also be reflected naturally through haptic feedback, such as moving focus, reaching the end of a scrollable section, controlling a frame, or when you receive a notification or start a game. This optional feature enhances immersion and is especially useful for players with some level of visual or hearing impairment who appreciate the additional feedback of their inputs.
- To enable this feature, go to [Settings] > [Accessibility] > [Controls], then enable [Haptic feedback when navigating the console].
Support for compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices
3D audio powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech can now be enjoyed by those with compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled HDMI devices, such as soundbars, TVs or home theater systems. Tempest 3D AudioTech outputs directly to the Dolby Atmos audio devices in use – including overhead channels – enabling even greater levels of immersion in the soundscapes of PS5 games.
- To enable Dolby Atmos, go to [Settings] > [Sound] > [Audio output] > [Audio format (priority)], then select [Dolby Atmos].
Improvements in social functioning
Party UI update. You can now invite a player to a closed party without automatically adding the player to the party or creating a new party. Additionally, players can now send open or closed party invites to groups instead of just to individual players.

Share Screen Preview. When someone shares their screen in a party you can join, you will now see a preview image of the Share Screen, even before you join the party.
Easily join your friends' game. Now you can easily see which of your friends are participating in an activity that you can join in on the [Friends] tab.
- The Joinable icon will appear next to friends who are playing a game that you can join.
- You can join a friend's game directly by pressing the options button and selecting [Join Game] or by selecting the “Join” button on their profile card.
Larger capacity M.2 SSD support
You can now use an SSD with a maximum capacity of 8TB (up from the previous limit of 4TB) to expand the storage space on your PS5 console.
