It looks like Google is finally raising the prices of YouTube Premium and YouTube Music. While the latter's price hike was expected, as most music streaming competitors like Spotify and Apple Music have already raised their prices, the YouTube Premium increase came out of nowhere.

The news was first reported by 9to5Google, who spotted the changes on YouTube's pages for its Premium and Music services. It's important to note that Google has yet to publicly announce the price increase, so it's unclear whether something more official will be sent out at a later date.

It's unclear at this time how existing subscribers to the services will be affected. According to 9to5Google, prices have not increased for their own plans, meaning that those who are subscribed may remain on the pricing they originally agreed to when signing up for the service.

As for the perks you get with YouTube Premium, users can download videos for offline, remove ads from the platform, gain access to background playback, and access YouTube Music. A newer perk of the service is the increased streaming from the regular 1080p to 1080p Premium.

While it's not a bad feature set, the $2 price increase could have a big impact for some.
