Apple co-founder Steve Wozniakhas warned that artificial intelligence (AI) can be used by “malicious users” and make it much harder to detect fraud and misinformation.
Wozniak, who was one of the co-founders of Apple along with the late Steve Jobs and invented the company's first computer, said that the content of artificial intelligence must be specific and clear and stressed that there should be specific policies set by regulators.

The businessman was among about 1,800 people (including Elon Musk) who signed a letter in March calling for a six-month pause in the development of powerful artificial intelligence systems, arguing that AI poses serious risks to humanity.
Steve Wozniak, known in the tech world as Woz, spoke about both the benefits and risks.
"AI is so smart that it's open to malicious users, those who want to fool you about who they are," he told the BBC.

Artificial intelligence refers to computer systems that are capable of performing tasks that would normally require human intelligence. For example, GPT-4, developed by OpenAI, can converse like a human, compose songs, summarize large documents, and more.
Steve Wozniak claims that AI won't replace humans because it doesn't have emotions. However, he warned that it will make malicious users more persuasive because programs like ChatGPT can create text that "sounds so smart."
Responsibility to people
The entrepreneur argued that responsibility for programs produced through AI lies with those who publish it: “A human being really has to take responsibility for what is created by artificial intelligence.”
He also urged regulators to hold big tech companies accountable for these kinds of technologies, as they “feel like they can get away with anything.” However, he believes that even regulators may not be getting it right: “The forces that drive us for money usually win, which is kind of sad,” he said.
Steve Wozniak stressed that "we can't stop technology," but said it's important to educate people so they can spot scams and malicious attempts to steal personal information.

Apple CEO Tim Cookalso told investors last week that it's important for everyone to be careful in how they approach artificial intelligence. "We see artificial intelligence as huge and we're going to continue to weave it into our products on a very careful basis," he said.
