After months of hard work, Linus Torvalds proudly announced the availability of Linux 6.2 as a stable kernel release for 2023 – marking it as the first major release of this year!
Linux 6.2 has now been revealed as the 2022 long-term support (LTS) kernel and will be maintained until at least 2026. This means that many of the improvements in Linux 6.2 are likely to be included in Linux 6.1 for long-term support purposes, even if they haven't been integrated into it yet!

While Intel may not be making public Torvalds ’ evaluation of Linux 6.2 , the company has pushed its Arc GPUs to the stable channel. After losing the market to standalone GPUs , Chipzilla is finally ready to play for many workloads that were previously out of reach. Now that their technology is supported by the Linux Kernel , Intel can start to quickly gain ground against its competition. Intel is sure to be pleased with the recognition of its Software-Defined Silicon Code , popularly known as “Intel On Demand” . This allows users to choose and pay for exactly the processing power they need from Intel ’s Xeon CPUs . This can prove incredibly useful for maximizing efficiency while helping them save money!
Apple 's M1 processors recently received mainline support in Linux 6.2 , opening up a world of possibilities for Asahi Linux and other users. There's no doubt that many tech enthusiasts are already eager to see the possibilities unlocked by taking advantage of this exciting new update on their iPads !
The release of Linux 6.2 was delayed for an extra week due to its release coinciding with Christmas and New Year, which meant that many developers and testers were unable to work during that period. But now that the new version is out, it's time to turn our excitement to another exciting cycle: Linux 6.3!

Hopefully, Linux 6.2 will be the main kernel in Ubuntu 23.04 and Fedora 38 before the release of its successor v6.3 in late April next year. After extensive testing on my part, I am confident that this version of Linux has great potential - especially for Skylake/Skylake-derived cores with Call Depth Tracking enabled - which makes me very happy that the Arc Graphics A380/A750/A770 works effortlessly right out of the box!
