China has committed to strengthening its judicial sector with an infrastructure based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) by 2025. This directive seeks to strengthen the integration of AI into legal processes and drastically upgrade their services.

In a statement published by China Daily, the country's Supreme People's Court said that all courts must have an artificial intelligence (AI) system within the next three years. The decision was detailed through guidelines set by its top court.

The document states that an improved, more efficient infrastructure for the use of AI will enhance all the processes and procedures required for the conduct of court cases. This framework should include the extensive incorporation of AI technology, the formation of smart courts, as well as an increased level of “digital justice,” according to the apex court.

Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool, but care must be taken to ensure that its application does not compromise national security or violate the privacy of citizens' personal data. The document stresses the importance of ensuring legal compliance and respecting people when applying artificial intelligence (AI) in sensitive cases.

The Supreme People's Court has stated that decisions made by human judges will remain unchanged, but AI tools can provide supplementary reports and mechanisms to improve judicial efficiency. By using this technology, the public will have improved access to legal services, while allowing for faster resolution of issues than ever before.

The decision also required all courts to make efforts to learn artificial intelligence technologies so that they can identify any irregularities in the processing of cases.

In order to facilitate the country's economic development, China has defined Artificial Intelligence (AI) as its key driving force and has stated its goal of becoming a global leader in AI by 2030.
