Twitter is moving at lightning speed under Elon Musk's unstable control. The focus is on product development, with Twitter Blue and the revival of Vine taking priority. Amidst all this chaos, with a mass layoff looming, a handful of Twitter products are also under the spotlight, and some have been put on indefinite hold.

In the latest edition of Platformer, tech journalist Casey Newton reports that Twitter's newsletter feature called Revue will be shutting down before the end of the year. Twitter acquired the newsletter service in January 2021. The decision to shut down the feature is a confusing one, as Musk has repeatedly said he wants to help creators make a living.

Revue’s biggest advantage over Substack was that Twitter only took 5% of the net proceeds from a creator’s subscription, while Substack took 10%. Over time, Twitter allowed creators to place their newsletter links on their profiles. A few weeks later, Twitter also added a subscribe button to tweets sharing a Revue newsletter article, allowing viewers to subscribe directly without the hassle of signing up via email.

Twitter's new CEO announced that the Notes feature will be discontinued. In June 2022, Twitter launched the Notes feature , which allowed users to post long-form articles of up to 2,500 words without having to worry about character counts or go through the thread writing ordeal. A dedicated Write option was added to the left pane, which opened a basic text editor.

Twitter allowed users to add images and embed tweets into their articles, styling the whole thing with a title and details about their Twitter profile, just like a regular news article. Each note had its own unique URL so people could read it without being redirected to the Twitter ecosystem. Tweets sent with a Note link included previews of the article that could be interacted with similar to how one would interact with a regular tweet on social media timelines .
Although the Notes feature was limited to a small group of users for testing, Twitter planned to expand it to more willing participants. Under Musk’s direction, however, the Notes feature is reportedly on “indefinite” hiatus. Despite how promising and convenient it seems, it seems Musk is now focused on video with other features, such as paywalled clips and the reintroduction of Vine to compete with TikTok.
