Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a set of new “business values” for Meta, Facebook’s parent company, and informed employees that they will henceforth be referred to as “Metamates.”.

According to Business Insider, Zuckerberg made the announcement during a meeting with all employees on Tuesday, where he outlined what it means to work for Meta. He introduced new ideas like “making great things” and a new call to “focus on long-term impact.”.

Expanding on Facebook’s core principles of being bold and moving fast. This is an evolution of phrases that started with “Move quick and shatter things,” evolved into “move fast,” and is now “move fast together.”
Last year, Zuckerberg changed the company name of Facebook to Meta, making it the parent company of some of the most popular social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Instagram. He added that to develop a new unified identity for the company's staff, they should consider themselves Metamates.
Zuckerberg noted on Facebook that the current principles were created in 2007, but that a lot has happened at the company since then.
"We've become a distributed organization. We're a multinational organization with broad impact. And now we're a metaverse company, building the future of social connectivity," he added, adding that "this is the right time to update our values, our cultural operating system," Zuckerberg said.

Andrew Bosworth, the company's chief technical officer, claimed on Twitter that the inspiration for Metamates was a nautical term that Instagram has long used: "Ship, Shipmates, self." According to Bosworth, Douglas Hofstadter, an expert in cognitive science, physics, and comparative literature, coined the term Metamates after a META employee emailed him with various suggestions.
